5 to 10 Week Employee Wellbeing
In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the top two present themselves as:
Esteem needs: We all desire to have respect and be respected by others, this includes self-esteem, confidence and a sense of self achievement.
Self actualisation: This is realising one’s full potential and this will differ from person to person. This is the highest level on the hierarchy and what we are all striving for.
Over a period of five to ten weeks, the equine-assisted program will not include any mounted activities. It is structured to place individuals in situations that force them out of their comfort zone; but never without the support of their peers, the facilitator, or the horse who has picked to be their teammate for the day.
Through meeting each participant’s esteem needs, the program continuously builds upon our sessions together to develop self-confidence and a sense of achievement, so that as a team, they can collectively embark on the journey of taking on problems or situations bigger than themselves.
With no right or wrong, this entire program is really all about the journey and the process. It aims at developing a better sense of self-awareness over the course of time. As we hone this ability to understand and identify key characteristics, it also allows us to start taking in the other team members and the skills they too contribute.
At the end of our 8 weeks, when the team is faced with a similar problem that they were exposed to in week one, they will be far better equipped to take it on. Mostly because they have a better sense of self, but also because that simultaneously allows for them to look for ways to leverage off the best of their skill set, and play their part in bringing their team to success.
